Which prompted me to research it's history, I learned Louis Durant came down from Canada, married a Chocktaw Indian Chief's daughter, fought with the tribe in New Orleans, negotiated treaties with the U.S. Government in behalf of Indians, that Durant Mississippi was named out of respect for the man. Also learned that according to the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, if Indians owned land, they never had to go to Oklahoma. However, Louis Durant and family were treated so badly by whites they were forced to sell 7000 acres of land, move to Oklahoma.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis book is fiction, Louis Durant may have never been in North East Texas, uttered words I put in the story, but very well could have. Hopefully you will find the other stories in this book interesting as well.
